UPI call merging scam
NPCI has released a new warning for crores of UPI users of the country. These days cyber criminals are carrying out cheating with people in the name of new call merging scam. Cyber criminals have adopted this new way to implicate UPI users in their nets. In this, the criminals call people and get OTP from them and vacate their bank account. A missed call scam also came before the call merging scam, in which hackers were making people a victim of cheating through missed calls.
The UPI has issued a warning from its official X handle regarding this new call merging scam. UPI_NPCI wrote in its post that scammers are merging the call to trap you in their nets. In its post, UPI has given complete information about this scam and has also told users about the way to avoid it.
What is call merging scam?
NPCI told in its post that scammers call people in the name of an event invite or job interview. In that call, it is claimed that you have met a friend of you and then you will be told that your friend is calling you from the second number, you merge the call.
Actually, it is not a friend’s call, but it is the call of OTP coming from the bank. Due to the call merger, the scammer listens to your OTP and can vacate your bank account. This scam is also dangerous because people get framed with them as long as they are careful.
Explain that users get OTP in two ways. OTP will come either through a message or e-mail on the phone or comes through a call. If you want to hear OTP on call, then you have to select another option. Due to the option with OTP via call, you can easily get OTP of scammers users.
How to avoid this?
Your caution is the only core to avoid any scam. The precaution you take, the less the risk of scam with you is as low. If you also get a call from an unknown number, then you ignore it. Also, do not merge the call coming from unknown number. You turn on the spam detection feature in your phone. For this, you have to go to the call settings of the phone. After this, you can enable this feature by going to the spam call filter option. By doing this, you can avoid the call coming from the unknown number.
