Elon Musk’s company Starlink may start its services in India soon. The company is currently waiting for approval from Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). Recently, Starlink announced its partnership with India’s Leading Telecom Operators Jio and Airtel. Starlink devices can be purchased from the outlets of both these telecom operators. However, this partnership depends on the company getting approval in India.

Service will start soon in India

Jio and Airtel will also provide satellite broadband service in India like Starlink. Both these Kapanis have got approval from the government. After spectrum allocation for satellite service, these two companies will start their broadband service. According to a report revealed, in Starlink’s satellite broadband service, users can be provided internet service at a higher speed than the existing broadband, which can be up to several terabytes per second, ie TBPS.

According to the latest report of ET Telecom, the internet speed Airtel ONEWEB or Jio-SES via Starlink Satellite Broadband can be 80 to 90 times more than the internet. Through lower orbit satellite, both these companies can provide internet from 50GBPS at a speed of 70GBPS. Alan Musk’s company can set up gateway in three cities in India, Mumbai, Pune and Indore for Starlink broadband service. These gateway will act like a bridge between satellite and taresterial networks to transfer data rapidly.

Internet speed will be many times faster

At present, the internet can be accessed at the speed of up to 70GBPS through the Non-Jostationary Orbit (NGSO) satellite, while the internet can be accessed at a speed of 58GBPS through the Geostationary Orbit (GSO). Starlink is currently providing broadband service in many countries through its generation-1 satellites.

Starlink has around 4,400 generation-1 and 2,500 generation-2 satellites. The company is going to further launch 30,000 satellites with Generation-2 in the coming time. What will be the capacity of Starlink in India, it is not clear at the moment. It will be known only after getting approval to start service. It is expected that the company gets clearance from the government in the coming few weeks.
