Service providers are waiting for the allocation of satellite spectrum. Satellite broadband service can begin after spectrum allocation by the government. Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has made a big statement in the Rajya Sabha regarding the satellite spectrum allocation, after which the satellite internet service is expected to start soon.
There will be allotment in administrative way
According to the PTI report, while answering the question asked by Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala during the question period in the Rajya Sabha, the Union Minister said, “Satellite spectrum will be allotted in an administrative manner. It will not be auctioned because we cannot auction any property that we do not have a complete control. Also, Jyotiraditya Scindia also placed the difference between mobile and satellite communication on the table of the House.
Difference between mobile and satellite spectrum
In the House, the Union Minister said that mobile technology operates on a low-frictivity waves which is present in the atmosphere. For this, auction of spectrum is necessary so that there is no interference in the signal. At the same time, satellite communication operates on high frequency which is direct transmit in the fix antina. At this time, no country in the world auctions satellite spectrum. He said that satellite auction is banned in the US Orbit Act. At the same time, satellites are also administratively allocated in countries like Europe, France and Germany.
Allotment after spectrum rates are prepared
The Union Communications Minister said in the House, “The Telecom Regulatory Authority, ie TRAI, prepares the spectrum rates. The spectrum will be allotted to all service providers after the TRAI sets the spectrum rates. There will be no discrimination in it.” At the same time, the International Telecommunication Union works to assign satellite orbit and frequency to one country, which can be used within the boundaries of the country. The minister further stated that the International Telecommunication Union specifies satellite orbit and frequency, different countries only control its use within their areas.
