Impact of TRAI’s rule, DOT takes major action, 1.75 lakh numbers closed

DOT has taken major action and blocked about 1.75 lakh numbers. The Department of Telecommunications has taken this action under the new rule of Uncalcified Commercial Communication (UCC) of TRAI. The Department of Telecommunications had run an anti-spam drive with public participation for this. People had complained about these numbers through the Telecom Department’s Communication Partner Chakshu Portal. Dot has also spoken about heavy fine on enterprise operating these numbers.

The Department of Telecommunications has given this information from its official X handle. Dot told in its post that 1.75 lakh Direct Inward Dialing i.e. DID or landline numbers have been blocked. Fake marketing calls were being made to people through these numbers. Also, these numbers were also being used for other illegal activities.

According to DOT, these numbers blocked were starting from 0731, 079, 080 etc. Pri, lease line, internet lease line, SIP and IPLC were being misused by them. With the help of public participation, these numbers were reported on the Chakshu portal under the UCC.

The Department of Telecommunications investigated the communication to be done with these numbers on the complaint of the people. After this, this action has been taken on them. Dot has appealed to enterprise that the regulation should be followed to make such promotional calls. According to the new TRAI rule, these promotional calls come under the UCC, due to which there is a provision to block their numbers as well as to seize the equipment used in it. Not only this, companies can also be fined heavy.

How to report fake calls?

If there is a promotional or fake call on your number, then you can report it on the Chakshu portal of the Department of Telecommunications. For this, you have to use communication partner online portal or app. If you navigate in the portal or app, you will get the option of eye. Go here and follow the instruction given on the screen and lodge your complaint.
